DKP - Hi Angela, thanks for taking the time to talk to us.
Angela - Hi, thanks for inviting me.
DKP - I would like to begin with you telling us where you are from and where you currently live?
Angela - Okay. I am proud to say I am a small town girl. Born and raised in Lake Butler, Florida. Right now I live in Gainesville, home of the Gators. Go Gators!
DKP - You have a book out and are celebrating its one year annversary. Tell us about your book.
Angela - I am very excited about my first book, Hide and Seek. It was released in ebook form by Freya's Bower in November 2007. I'm still excited about it. It's a contemporary romantic suspense with an ancient Egyptian twist.
DKP - How did you come up with the title?
Angela - Originally I called it Dangerous Passions but Hide and Seek seemed to fit more with the plot of the story. The heroine has been in hiding since she was a little girl. When the story begins, she's thrust out of hiding and must find the people responsible for her parents' deaths before they find her.
DKP - We are excited to announce Diana Kay Publishing's first writers contest. Did you ever enter Hide and Seek in a writing contest and did it help you as a writer?
Angela - Yes. Back when it was called Dangerous Passions, I entered it in the 2005 Oklahoma Centennial Book Festival Love at First Site contest. It placed first, and I still get embarrassed thinking about how much I cried when I got the call from the contest coordinator. I could barely say 'thank you'.
DKP - Congratulations on that win. We're hoping our Beginnings, Middles, and Endings writing contest will draw a lot of writers. Since Hide and Seek has been published have you gotten any reviews on it?
Angela - Oh yes. I'm happy to say it's had several wonderful reviews. It also won the 2008 Golden Rose Awards for Best Romantic Suspense.
DKP - That's awesome. Congratulations.
Angela - Thank you.
DKP - When did you start writing?
Angela - I started many, many years ago. I've focused a lot of those years on researching the craft of writing. I read every book and article I could get my hands on and absorbed all the tips and hints and other useful information I could. I began collecting reference books. Now I have so many that I had to buy a separate book case for them.
DKP - Who or what has influenced your writing?
Angela - My mother was a big influence on my writing. She's always encouraged me to follow my dreams. As far as authors go, though, I have to say that Johanna Lindsey is a major writing influence. Her stories are just phenomenal.
DKP - What genre are you most comfortable writing?
Angela - I love action and adventure mixed with a healthy portion of romance. Elements of suspense are also a wonderful page turner both from a writing and a reading prospective.
DKP - Do you have any favorite authors?
Angela - As I said before I've always been a big fan of Johanna Lindsey but I also love to read Nora Roberts and Dara Joy. Recelntly, I've had the pleasure of reading SheWolf by Teresa D'Amario, a fellow author with Freya's Bower. I have to say she's a natural story teller.
DKP - What book are you reading now?
Angela - Mostly reference books ::blushing::
DKP - What was the hardest part of writing your book?
Angela - Figuring out a process that really worked. I'm working on an article right now that outlines that process.
DKP - What else are you currently working on?
Angela - I've been doing a lot of editing lately and some articles about writing.
DKP - Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Angela - Hi ya'll. If you've read Hide and Seek, I hope you enjoyed it. If not then I'd love for you to give it a read and let me know what you think.
DKP - Thanks for your time. We appreciate you talking to us.
Angela - You're welcome. Thanks for asking me for an interview.
