Article 381: What Message Al Jazeera TV. Want to Convey? And Why was banned in Some Arab Countries?

Hasan Yahya, Ph.Ds, the Dean of Arab Writers in North America

1

What Al-Jazeera (the well watched worldwide) want to convey to the Arab People? And what approach it follows to be hated and banned in several countries? It is not only the truth, concerns Al Jazeera, I believe that there are more than the truth. Al Jazeera financiers, editors and staff had in common the share of dignity loss through the past twenty years. They open up to various opinions, not only for an opinion and its opposite, but to uncover secrets to make room for courage and thinking among viewers all over the Arab countries, as well as viewers outside the Middle East. Al Jazeera, in fact buried fear, depression, and create anger, while almost all Arab regimes dance over their loss of dignity by the only two enemies ( USA as enforcer of dignity loss among Arabs and Muslims, through its foreign policy decisions) and Israel with its continuous aggression which also contributed in the dignity loss among Arabs. Unlike Al-Jazeera correspondents who are media agents specialized to reflect on events they see or hear. They are specialists and look for trusted sources for the news. They are responsible of  what they report. But they are accused sometimes as traitors by some authorities in Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, Iraq, Libya and many other countries. To describe the Egyptian Revolution,  Al Jazeera continued to carry live images of crowds on  Tahrir. Contacting various callers from different areas to give the customers the latest on the event. Al-Jazeera was described by authorities as "it has caused more destruction than Israel for Egypt"  according to governer of al Minya province. He also call  for the trial of Al Jazeera correspondents.

Free press and free speech are signs of democratic practices. In traditional societies where governments rule using traditional proverbs to keep the status quo, and praise their works of those Elite traditional regimes. In Arabic ethics, taken from Islamic teachings,  that people have to abide with the orders of leaders. And obey their kings or Emirs, even though their regimes are corrupt. They use parenthood for respect, and use proverbs such as "Don't look up, and always look down". "respect the elders, those who have the authority".  And "The eye never be upper the brow". They forgot that Uthman bin Affan, the third Khalifa was killed for corruption and nepotism, by solders (believers) came from Egypt for that purpose( to change the head of the state), because he belongs to Abu Sufian bin Harb Tribe. Where most governors were from that tribe including Mu'awiyah who was the governor of Damascus.

Public media reactions to protests: Having ignored the protests for five days, Egyptian state directed TV by the National Party, unlike the naked truth through Al-Jazeera cameras and reporters, The Egyptian public TV in all channels saying only a handful of  protesters were in central Cairo. Al-Jazeera, Twitter, facebook and Youtube show millions of protesters in many areas of Egypt, especially the Tahrir Square. In the same time, Public media especially the Egyptian and Saudi media were  both trying to discredit the protest movement. For example, the headline in Saudi-owned daily Asharq al-Awsat reads after four days of January 25th, "Egypt  mutilates itself" ( No. 11751, Jan. 30th, 2011), and in February 3rd, the headlines read: " Egypt: Violence Erupted…..All look for the Army". (No. 11755, Feb. 3rd, 2011), In all headlines in the eighteen Days of the Egyptian Revolution, the word " revolution" was not mentioned. (607 words)
