What is it like to live in Wilmington, NC? (I'm an artist and a writer - would I like it there?)?

Are apartments hard to find? Are the rents reasonable? Does it have an "artsy" feel to it? Is is safe? Are the people friendly? Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

to answer your questions:
1) apartments are easy to find
2) rent is reasonable, especially if you choose to live further away from the college (like around 17th st. or the monkey junction area)
3) yes, it has an "artsy" feel I'd say. however, in my personal opinion, the only place you really get that "feel" is downtown or at any port city java coffee house. if you like going to artsy events (such as musical performances, theater, etc) the local University attracts many traveling performances and musicians. there's also a place downtown called city stage that puts on many shows.
4) as far as safety is concerned, it's like any other city... it has good spots, and it has it has rough patches. I felt fairly safe there for the most part.
5) the people are friendly and laid back!!
6) what it's like to live there: my opinion may be a bit biased because I went to college there and it was my first time being away from home, but it is one of my favorite places in the world, and I plan on moving back there one day. wilmington is nice because it has everything that you need... the beach is close by, there are tons of great resturants, it has a decent mall and other shopping places (like target, walmart, kohls, etc.) then you have the downtown which is on the river and ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL by day, and fun by night (if you're into nightlife) I think that the city has something to offer for everyone and all types.

the only downfall is the tourist traffic in the summer... but after you live there for a bit, you learn that there are many roads to get to the same location, and it's not so bad.

I would def. recommend living there!
