Writer Qualities
I am hiring a content writer/copywriter, but have no background in the profession. Any tips in how to assess?
I already have a comprehensive job profile covering all the responsibilities of the position. Basically, we are starting several Web 2.0 businesses, and need someone to manage all the textual content on the websites (such as faq pages, emails, as well as any helpful info/tips/guides a person encounters while using the website), plus any promotional materials, such as direct mailers, brochures, and presentations. However, I am not quite sure how to assess the quality of the applicants. I can ask them for writing samples, and look at their background to begin with, but I think maybe I should specify the type of writing samples I'm looking for (for example, a newspaper article, or essay might not be of much help). Also, when it comes to interviews, I'm not really sure what sort of questions I should be asking. Any ideas? Your help will be much appreciated!
